The Conjuring 2 (English) is a 2016 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. It is the sequel to 2013's The Conjuring, and the second installment in The Conjuring franchise. In 1971, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to England to assist single mother Peggy Hodgson and her four children in their home. Fearful for their safety due to reported demonic activity in their home, they ask Father MacNeil for help; he agrees after seeing an apparition outside of his church. When Father MacNeil enters the home, he is harassed by the poltergeist, which manifests as an angry shadow of a child. He flees through a trapdoor in his bedroom. Arriving at their caravan, the Warrens enter whilst Ed's wife Christine is inspecting the home. While there, Ed receives a call from his son Patrick, who tells him that Peggy had felt paralyzed and was unable to leave her bed. The Warrens discover numerous objects strewn across the floor and walls of the family's master bedroom; they also note that moths are falling down from above their heads, where they collect on light bulbs suspended above them on string. Lorraine examines a portrait on the wall of a demon-like creature, noting the eyes are glaring back at her. Recognizing the picture as a depiction of her deceased aunt, she takes it down from the wall. In 1970, Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to Rhode Island for a consultation with their friend John Holden. John has been plagued by demonic activity in his farmhouse and asks them to evaluate and possibly exorcise it. They arrive in time to witness a black figure materialize inside his house and attack his wife Annabelle, who is in labor with their daughter, Ruth. As they arrive, the entity escapes through a window. John tells Ed and Lorraine that the entity only appeared to attack Annabelle; she is left with severe scratches on her arm and leg. The Warrens later relate this case to Father MacNeil in his church, who says the demon could be the "Devil in Garments" (the robe worn by Jesus in Michelangelo's Pietà). Later that year, Ed and Lorraine return to Rhode Island for another consultation with John. He asks them to investigate unusual noises coming from his basement; when they go down there, they find Annabelle hanging from an old laundry line by her neck. They also find the entities responsible for the other incidents. While Ed and Lorraine are inspecting the house, they hear Annabelle's voice calling to them. She tells them "the dead ones" are trying to get her; she then collapses. As they return up the basement stairs, they see two shapes that appear to be Annabelle and Ruth on the floor; while Ed runs to grab some flashlights, Lorraine is grabbed violently by an apparition of herself in a bathroom mirror. She hears herself scream, but when she turns around nothing is behind her; she sees only an empty bathroom with no evidence of paranormal activity.
